The Wren’s Nest Awarded Grant from Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture

Sept 2024 — On behalf of the board of directors of The Wren’s Nest (The Joel Chandler Harris Association, Inc.), we offer our sincere thanks to the Fulton County Board of Commissioners for the recent award of grant funding to our museum and its programs and services. This support helps us to realize our mission to preserve our significant historic site, champion storytelling, and cultivate readers and writers through educational and cultural programming. 

Grant funding from FCAC continues to be an invaluable form of support towards The Wren’s Nest’s ability to sustain our educational museum tours, oral storytelling program, and expanding special programs throughout the year that focus on topics in history, culture, and literature. More specifically, funding from Fulton County Arts & Culture supports our museum guides, our storytelling artists, our creative writing teaching artists and the production and outreach costs of our expanding cultural and educational programs, particularly our youth focused programs.

These programs benefit Fulton County in numerous ways. They create accessible opportunities for visitors and residents to connect with oral storytelling traditions while highlighting and supporting the talents of Fulton County performing artists. Our Scribes and Comic Camps empower young writers and our active participation in Mayor’s Summer Reading Club is helps local children foster a love of storytelling and reading as well as building foundational literacy skills. Our topical programs offer unexpected, edifying, and entertaining educational and cultural experiences, including literature tours highlighting the literary history of our and other local literary luminaries.

We are proud to be Atlanta’s oldest house museum and play a longtime role in contributing to Fulton County’s rich arts and culture infrastructure. We are so grateful for this vital grant support that sustains our work.
