Molly

Where I come from

I am from thirsty basil
From nutella and stinky salmon
I am from long bike rides
I am good times and bad
I am from seven schools and sewing needles
I am from my Mom’s “Dad jokes”
And Dad’s banjo songs
From pointing at little dogs to
Tossing a baby in the yard
I am from not a single branch
But a whole tree every leaf a memory

Alone for the first time

“Now Nya be a good girl and wait for Pa.” said Nya’s mother
“But I don’t want to wait for Pa alone” Nya said
“Please baby, be good and take this basket of food.”

Reluctantly Nya took the food and hugged her mother good bye. She was left on a sad cold slab of concrete. The only thing she had to keep herself company was a lamb hat that her mother had given her and an old rusted piano. She stood up and played a key “plonk” the sound startled her and she squealed in delight. She cheerfully began to play with such skill she could rival Beethoven. She got lost in the music and didn’t realize when her father sat down next to her. When she finished he clapped “Bravo!” he screamed. Nya smiled and they left for his home in the city.
